How to use beef tallow for cooking

Melt a small amount in your pan or use in place of oil, butter, or shortening where suitable for your recipe.

  • Roasting: Coat potatoes and vegetables for crisp edges and savoury flavour.

  • Searing and sautéing: Use for steaks, eggs, vegetables, and everyday pan cooking.

  • Frying: Use for pan-frying or deep-frying.

  • Baking: Add to savoury pastry and pie crust recipes that call for a solid fat.

What is kidney suet tallow?

Kidney suet is the fat surrounding the kidneys of cattle. We render and filter it to produce pure beef tallow—a cooking fat that is firm when cool and melts when heated.

Does it have a strong beef flavour?

Our kidney suet tallow has a mild flavour that complements your ingredients. As a naturally rendered animal fat, it may have a very subtle beef aroma which dissipates almost immediately.

Storage and care

Store in a cool, dry place away from heat and direct sunlight. Our beef tallow is shelf-stable and can also be refrigerated to help extend freshness. Follow the best-before date on your jar.

Always use a clean, dry utensil and keep moisture and food particles out of the jar. Tallow naturally softens in warm conditions and becomes firmer when refrigerated.

Choose your size

Select the 300 g jar for occasional cooking or the 600 g jar for a kitchen you cook in every day.

Bring Canadian-made, grass-fed beef tallow to your next meal.
